Pharmacologial Properties of Pharmatex Vaginal Cream 12mg/g tube 72 g:
Pharmacodynamic:
- Benzalkonium chloride has the properties of both a spermicide and an antiseptic.
- The active substance causes rupture of the sperm membrane. The destruction of the sperm occurs in two stages: first, the flagellum is destroyed, and then the head.
- The effectiveness of the product varies depending on how carefully the instructions for use are followed.
- Does not affect saprophytic microflora (Doderlein bacilli are preserved).
- Since Farmatex is not a hormonal drug, its use does not affect the menstrual cycle, libido, or fertility.
- Experimental studies have established the antiseptic activity of benzalkonium chloride:
;in vitro, the drug is active against pathogens of sexually transmitted infections, in particular: Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia spp., Herpes simplex type 2, HIV, Trichomonas vaginalis, Staphylococcus aureus. However, the drug is inactive against Mycoplasma spp. and has low activity against Gardnerella vaginalis, Candida albicans, Haemophilus ducreyi and Treponema pallidum; - Anecdotal in vivo data suggest possible effectiveness in the prevention of some sexually transmitted diseases, but direct evidence of this preventive effect is lacking.
Pharmacokinetic:
Benzalkonium chloride is practically not absorbed by the vaginal mucosa.
Indication of Pharmatex Vaginal Cream 12mg/g tube 72 g:
Local contraception.
Pharmatex is a local contraceptive (spermicide) for preventing pregnancy, which, like other methods of contraception, does not exclude pregnancy completely. The effectiveness of the spermicide depends on compliance with the instructions for medical use. Pharmatex can be used both separately and with other means of contraception to enhance the contraceptive effect.
This method of contraception is intended for all women of reproductive age. It is especially advisable to use Pharmatex:
in the case of temporary or permanent contraindications to the use of oral contraceptives or intrauterine means (intrauterine spiral);
after childbirth, during breastfeeding, during premenopause;
if necessary, episodic prevention of pregnancy;
as an adjunct to oral contraception when you miss a pill or take it later than necessary (in this case, it is necessary to additionally apply Pharmatex until the end of the menstrual cycle);
as an auxiliary agent for barrier contraception (vaginal diaphragm, cervical cap), when using an intrauterine spiral (especially with long-term simultaneous use of some drugs, for example, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).
Contraindications of Pharmatex Vaginal Cream 12mg/g tube 72 g:
Increased sensitivity (allergic reactions or irritant effect) to the components of the drug, vaginitis, ulcers and irritation of the mucous membrane of the vagina and cervix. The impossibility of correct use of vaginal tablets by persons with mental disorders and persons who do not allow any interventions on the genitals, or those who are unable to understand and accept this type of contraception.
Interaction with other medicinal products:
The simultaneous use of Pharmatex with other intravaginal agents is not recommended: any other drugs introduced into the vagina can reduce the contraceptive effect of Pharmatex. Benzalkonium chloride is destroyed by soap, so Pharmatex is incompatible with soap even in minimal quantities.
Precautions and Warnings of Pharmatex Vaginal Cream 12mg/g tube 72 g:
Pharmatex is an effective means to prevent pregnancy, when used correctly during each sexual act. However, this method of contraception is somewhat inferior in effectiveness to such methods of contraception as hormonal contraception, an intrauterine spiral, a diaphragm, a cervical cap or a condom. The effectiveness of spermicides decreases if the rules of use are not followed.
The effectiveness of the contraceptive action depends significantly on the careful observance of the rules of use, so it is important to specifically explain to the patient how to use the product and make sure that she understood everything correctly.
Persons who cannot understand or correctly perceive the rules of use should not use this means of contraception.
Overdose:
No cases of overdose have been identified.
Side Effects:
When using Pharmatex, according to the indications, the risk of developing side effects is minimal, but patients with increased sensitivity to the components of the drug may experience allergic reactions, irritation, tingling, a feeling of heat at the injection site, as well as contact dermatitis, itching and burning in the vagina and ( or) partner’s penis, painful urination. If they occur, it is necessary to stop using Pharmatex.
