Eprinomectin is very toxic to aquatic organisms and may accumulate in sediments. Like other macrocyclic lactones, it has the potential to adversely affect non-target organisms.
After treatment, the excretion of potentially toxic levels of Eprinomectin may take place over several weeks. Feces containing eprinomectin, eliminated on grazing by treated animals, can reduce the abundance of organisms that feed on manure and this can affect the degradation of the manure itself. The risk for aquatic ecosystems and manure fauna can be reduced by avoiding the too frequent and repeated use of the eprinomectin (and of the products of the same anthelmintic class) in cattle. The risk to aquatic ecosystems can be further reduced by keeping the treated cattle far from the water bodies for 2-4 weeks after treatment. While numbers of mites and lice are rapidly reduced after treatment, due to the eating habits of pests, in some cases it takes several weeks to complete eradication. Do not administer by mouth or by injection. For effective use, the product should not be applied to areas of the dorsal line covered with sludge or manure.
Apply only on intact skin. Pay attention to the following practices as they increase the risk of developing resistance and ultimately could render therapy ineffective: too frequent and repeated use of the anthelmintics of the same class for a prolonged period of time; under-dosing, which may be caused by underestimation of body weight, incorrect administration of the product or failure to calibrate the administration tool (if present). Clinical cases suspected of resistance to anthelmintics should be further evaluated using appropriate tests (eg tests to reduce fecal egg count). If the results of the (i) test strongly suggest resistance to a particular anthelmintic, an anthelmintic belonging to another pharmacological class and with a different mechanism of action must be used. To date, no resistance to eprinomectin (a macrocyclic lactone) has been reported in the EU. However, resistance to other macrocyclic lactones in bovine parasitic species has been reported in the EU. Therefore, the use of this product should be based on local epidemiological information (regional, at the level of rearing) about the sensitivity of nematodes and recommendations on how to further limit the selection of resistance to anthelmintics. Special precautions for those who administer the product to animals: this product can be irritating to the skin and eyes of man and may cause hypersensitivity. Avoid contact of skin and eyes. Wear rubber gloves and boots as well as a waterproof coat. This product may be toxic after accidental ingestion.
Inhalation of the product may cause irritation.
